Psychology of Special Needs
Prof. Aloys Alex Odeck-Ayungo is professor of special needs at Maseno University, Kenya. A holder of Doctoral Degree in Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling from Syracuse University, New York; the professor boasts a number of published articles in referred journals in his more than Thirty (30) years of experience in the management of social research and development, including extensive experience in educational administration in the University as coordinator, head of department and Dean. The good professor has supervised more than Thirty Five (35) Master’s and Doctoral students and served as an external examiner in a number of Public Universities across the globe. Prof. Odeck has participated in inter-disciplinary educational research, development activities which included project development, administration and financial management. He has collaborated with both local and International Development Organizations and Universities in research, during which periods he has developed various project proposals in community mobilization, and data gathering where he got involved in Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), including designing, monitoring and evaluation of projects.  A member of various Professional Organizations that deal with Social Research, Education and Development, Prof. Odek’s research interests include special needs education; specifically in rehabilitation counseling, learning and motivation, and the gifted and talented. He is passionate about child development, behaviour change and health policy development.

Clinical Psychologist

Prof. Ayuku is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Behavioral Sciences, School of Medicine, Moi University, Kenya. He has served as a member of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and School of Medicine, Moi University Institutional Research and Ethics Committee (IREC) for many years and has been significantly involved in a number of projects among vulnerable children and adolescents. The widely researched and widely published professor has significantly been involved in developing an international research ethics training program for master’s level students in collaboration with faculty at Indiana University.

Develomental Psychologist

Paul is currently an Associate Professor and Director of Quality Assurance and Performance Management at Maseno Universit. His areas of specialization include Developmental, Abnormal, Research Methodology, Social Psychology, Group Dynamics, Counseling, Measurement & Evaluation. Prof. Oburu has had an extensive background in research involving vulnerable adolescents and grandmothers affected and infected by HIV/AIDS related deaths. His initial research focus concentrated on caregiving stress, mental health and adjustment problems of grandmother caregivers and orphaned children who assume age inappropriate child caring responsibilities with the death of their biological parents. He has also assessed caregiving challenges experienced by adolescent children taking care of other equally vulnerable siblings. His research training, expertise and experiences with the youth made vulnerable by the widespread HIV/AIDS related mortality and living in impoverished contexts makes him particularly well suited to positively contribute towards the development and execution of viable and policy related research projects. Additionally, his research endeavor with children taking care of other siblings enabled him to experience firsthand the vulnerability factors related to HIV/AIDS infections amongst adolescents and also probable risk taking behaviors amongst this particular group. Prof. Oburu is well placed to identify and design effective intervention programs that could possibly be put in place to reduce the possibility of the youth getting involved in risky sexual and life endangering behaviors. The Professor brings to PSK his wealth of experiences, useful and dedicated expertise and focus that varies from his initial involvement in secondary school and university teaching experiences, cross-cultural research, child development, vulnerability and resiliency research spanning over 10 years.

Educational, School and Community Psychologist

Dr. Pamela Wadende is a consummate educationist and social scientist with a strong belief that education makes the world a better planet. In her scholarship endeavors, she focuses on conducting research and applying its findings to society’s felt needs. Dr Wadende holds a PhD in Adult, Professional and Community Education and a Masters degree in Educational Psychology; qualifications that entrench her in the field of pedagogy and human behavior.  She is a senior lecturer, Head of department, and a member of many other local and international scholarship organizations.  She has a wealth of experience in the field of educational psychology and community development as a researcher, grant writer, project management and evaluation, school counselor, education manager, graduate student mentor, community educator and developer among other practical oriented activities. Dr. Wadende’s life mission is to make the world a better place than she found it.

Dr Roger S. Songole, Council Member & Chair, Standing Committee on Research and Publications of PSK

Dr. Roger. S. Songole is a holder of PhD in Christian Counseling (Newburgh), Msc in Clinical Psychology (Makerere), Pg.Dip.PSW (C.Q.S.W Manchester), and BA in Psychology (USIU). Currently he serves as a Lecturer in Mental Health, Moi University, where he is also a Psychotherapist/Counselor Trainer. Dr Songole has published widely in International Peer Reviewed Journals. He is the current Chair of the Kenya Association of Professional Counselors (K.A.P.C) and a member of the Kenya Psychiatric Association. His research Interests are Trauma Counseling, Couple/Family Therapy, and Substance Abuse Counseling.

Dr Florence Kokul, Council Member & Chair, Standing Committee on Fellows and Awards of PSK

Dr. Florence Kokul holds a PhD in Counselling Psychology. Her research interests are Counselling in schools and colleges and marital counseling. She is currently a faculty at the Depatmnt of Psychology, Mount Kenya University, Thika. Her academic carrerr spans many years having. She has held a number of administrative positions , among them: Chairman, Examination Results Section - Kenyatta  University (2005 – 2011); Chairman and Head, Department of Psychology – Mount Kenya University (2012 -2015 January); Chairman:  Departmental Mentorship programme – Mount Kenya University: 2015 Up to date; and Chairman: Departmental Quality Assurance – Mount Kenya University: ( 2015 Up to date.

Prof Peter Odera, Council Member & Chair, Standing Committee on Ethics of PSK

Prof. Peter Odera is an Associate Professor of Psychology. He holds B.A from Panjab University, an M.A with bias towards Educational Psychology, an M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology with bias towards Social Psychology from Aligarh Muslim University. Currently, he is an Acting Dean in School of Graduate Studies, Masinde Muliro University of Science Technology.  Prof. Odera is founding Chairman of the Department of Educational Psychology at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE). He was the Deputy Dean of Faculty of Education and Programme Leader of Distance Training Programme at Kigali Institute of Education. He taught at Kenyatta University and United States International University-Africa before joining KIE in 2000. He was a visiting Lecturer at National University of Rwanda in 1999. He have successfully guided and supervised over twenty Masters and PhD students. He is External Examiner for Kenyatta, Moi and Maseno Universities. His area of interest is in Cross-cultural Studies. He has written articles in Educational issues, Cross-cultural Studies, Guidance and Counselling in reputable journals and international journals.

A well read Scholar, Dr. Rael holds a PhD and Master Degrees in Educational Psychology, Bachelor of Education Degree, Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource, and a Diploma in Total Quality Management. Her research interests are developmental psychology and social dynamics within the family. Rael lives the Psychology vision by always striving to be an inspiration to peoples’ lives.

Prof. H. N. Kodero, Council Member &Chair, Standing Committee on Disciplinary of PSK

Prof. Kodero attained both his Masters and PhD degrees from the University of Alberta, Canada. Currently serving as Dean, School of Education, Rongo University College; Prof. Kodero was Dean, School of Education, Moi University between 2003-2005.
A member of the Organization of Social Sciences Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA), Prof. Kodero is the current manager of Educational Journal of Behavioural Sciences (EJBS). He has published widely in reputable Journals and supervised and examined a multitude of PhD students. A winner of several research grants; Prof. Kodero’s research interests include Cognition and learning, Interpersonal relationships, Self-monitoring construct, Orphans and orphanages, Development of research instruments, and Parent/caregiver-child interaction.

Dr. Disiye, M., Council Member & Chair, Standing Committee on Professional Practice of PSK

Dr. Disiye is a Lecturer and Head of Department of Psychology at Maseno University, Kenya. Her research interests are in adolescent psychology and the development of research instruments. In her formative years, Dr. Disiye served as an auxiliary lecturer at Moi and Mt. Kenya universities. She equally practiced Educational Guidance and Counselling in various high schools in Kenyan for more than a decade and headed several counseling Departments in these institutions.

Enos Mwirotsi IS a practicing counsellor and an associate faculty at Mount Kenya University. His areas of research are Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Occupational stress, Human Sexuality, Grief and loss therapy among others with special interests in Organizational Psychology, Family Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Professional Ethics, Psychopathology and Psychological Practice.
